Increasing consumption in general aviation industry

The photo taken on August 2 shows a visitor puts on a parachute bag under the guidance of a coach and flies towards the foot of the mountain at Changsha Heimifeng Paragliding Base.

"The passenger flow increased by 30% year on year in the first half of this year," said Zhu Xiaoyong, general manager of Changsha Heimifeng Paragliding Base. He told reporters that despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the passenger flow has risen instead of falling through price cuts and other measures.

"Since the base opened in 2017, people have become increasingly enthusiastic about paragliding. There are currently five or six paragliding bases in and around Changsha," said Zhu.

It is learned that such consumption in general aviation industry has been heating up since the summer holidays as experiencing the hot air balloon, paragliding, delta wing and rotorcraft, and it has gradually become a part of people's recreations.

The term "general aviation" is actually a category of civil aviation, referring to the use of civil aircraft to engage in civil aviation activities, including operating flights for different industries like agriculture and forestry, as well as for healthcare, cultural tourism, aviation entertainments and other purposes.

In addition, there are agricultural drones spraying pesticides, aerial prospecting scientific research photography, forest fire emergency firefighting, etc.

During this May Day holiday, the total number of flights and flight time grew by 200% and 123.3% respectively. The low-altitude tour and around-flying tour have become new choices for many tourists.

Burgeoning general aviation industry in Changsha

In recent years, Changsha's general aviation industry has enjoyed rapid growth with an increasing number of aviation enterprises. The whole industry chain has been covered from product development and manufacturing to operation.

As early as 2016 when Hunan General Aviation Association was established, six of the seven initiative aviation enterprises were located in Changsha.

At present, the association has more than 60 aviation enterprises distributed throughout the province, most of which are situated in Changsha.

It is learned that Hunan has become the largest production base for small and medium-sized aviation engines in China, and its production output of light aviation aircrafts accounts for 70% of the national market.
