Ningxiang City has scored fruitful results in advancing green development of high-quality agriculture by reducing pesticides and increasing efficiency in order to make healthy rice available for the general public. In golden paddy field in the farmland of Xinxiang Community, Shuangjiangkou Town, Ningxiang City, many pest traps are placed for the prevention and control of pests and diseases.
The core demonstration area for the prevention and control of pests and plants diseases is located in Xinxiang Village, Shuangjiangkou Town, Ningxiang City, with an area of 173.8 acres. The demonstration base adopts “Jiyou 1127” pesticide, unified fertilizer, water management, green prevention and control technologies such as sexual lure, light lure, food lure, ecological regulation, and rational use of drug.

Meanwhile, three demonstration zones have been built in Jianlou Village of Jinzhou Town, Yanhe Village of Huilongpu Town, and Cuiping Village of Huangcai Town. Each zone covers an area of more than 49.42 acres and can influence the surrounding area of 8236.85 acres.

“The core demonstration zone sees gratifying results. Despite the severe pest attack this year, the chemical pesticides have been reduced by more than 20% owing to the green prevention and control of pests. At present, this green method has been applied in an area of more than 115315.8 acres,” said Zeng Xiaoling, director of the Plant Protection and Quarantine Department of Ningxiang Agricultural Technology Extension Center.
Xiao Jianjun, a major grower in Shuangjiangkou Town, looked very happy, who was busy harvesting the paddy rice. He has 13.18 acres of double-season rice, and the annual grain yield per mu (about 0.165 acres) has increased by more than 200 kg compared with that of precious years.

According to Xiao Jianjun, if early rice and late rice are not properly matched, a good harvest will not be expected, so a major grower will face higher risks. Thanks to “Jiyou 1127” pesticide, economic pressure brought by double-season rice are greatly relieved, so major grain growers now see high yields and income.

Now, each mu of late rice can expect 500 kg yield and that of early rice 400 kg, which is good news to major growers. Moreover, growers like Xiao Jiangjun also benefits greatly from the green pest control technology promoted by the Municipal Agricultural Technology Extension Center.
Xiao once took the technology and relevant products with a grain of salt. However, when he saw a lot of insects in traps and insecticidal lamps, he soon was impressed by the striking effect, convincing himself that the technology is not only environment-friendly but also cost-saving.

“With the green prevention and control technology, we can reduce one time of pesticide use in late rice, which can cut down the cost by more than 40 yuan per mu,” Xiao Jianjun said.

The technicians of Ningxiang City Agriculture and Rural Bureau revealed that the late rice is expected to see a bumper harvest. In the next stage, they will increase efforts to promote the green prevention and control technology for the sound development of green agriculture.
