Founded in 1985, Ningxiang Vocational and Technical Institute is the only public national key school, the only national secondary vocational reform and development demonstration school and the only outstanding construction school in Hunan province.
 
It is also the “12th Five-Year Plan” demonstration (characteristic) secondary vocational school, integrating academic education, vocational training, skill appraisal and further studies and employment.
 
The school covers an area of 215 mu (143,334 square meters) and has a building area of about 96,000 square meters, with a combined student and staff population of more than 4,000. The school actively explores cooperation with Australia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and other countries in school-running exchanges.
 
In line with regional industrial development and market demand for talents, the school has built 13 specialties in four professional categories, namely, mechanical and electrical equipment manufacturing, finance and trade, cultural tourism and automobile manufacturing and services, defining its professional advantages and creating a brand effect.
 
The “Implementation Plan of Vocational Education Reform in Hunan Province” came out in 2020. Efforts will be made to improve the vocational education system, gradually open up rising channels for secondary vocational school students, advanced vocational college students, undergraduate students and professional degree postgraduates, and build an "overpass" for students to make diversified choices and become talented through multiple methods.
 
After graduation, students have not only found jobs nearby, but also passed the college entrance examination and enrolled in Hunan Normal University, Hunan Agricultural University, Hunan University of Technology, Changsha University, Central South University of Forestry and Technology and other leading institutions.
 
In recent years, nearly 1,000 outstanding graduates from the school have been admitted to second-tier colleges and universities, and the comprehensive entrance rate of college entrance examination remains above 98 percent. Students can also enter colleges and universities for further study through single recruitment.
 
The school is located between the Ningxiang National Economic and Technological Development Zone, Ningxiang High-tech Zone and Xiaduopu Machinery Industrial Park. The school adheres to the tenet of “serving the development of students, enterprises and the economy”. It gives full play to the advantages of running schools in industrial parks, and has built a school-enterprise cooperation mode to train practical talents, such as opening classes with title sponsorship, order-oriented education and post practice.
 
In cooperation with more than 100 enterprises such as Gree Electric Appliances, Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science & Technology, Truking Technology, Sany Group and Rongyuan Hotel, as well as the reception office of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, it has established post practice bases in 58 well-known enterprises to offer a stable employment platform for students.
 
Over the past 35 years, the school has made remarkable achievements and trained more than 20,000 high-quality skilled talents for society. They have become backbones in the construction and development of various industries and experts in starting businesses.
 
The school has 15 student associations such as clubs for guitar, piano, martial arts and chess, as well as a campus TV station. It holds activities such as a campus culture and arts festival, and regular fun sports meetings to enrich students’ campus life.
