Wanshsin’s harmonic reducers replace foreign brands

Reducers, servo motors and controllers are considered to be the three core components of robots, which are also the main bottlenecks restricting the development of China’s robot industry.

As a whole, in the overall cost of industrial robots, the proportion of core components is close to 70%, of which reducers (RV reducers and harmonic reducers) account for the largest proportion of 35%. In 2022, the domestic market for reducers was approximately 132.1 billion yuan, but foreign companies accounted for 80%.

“It is eminent to fill the shortcomings of high-end reducers in China’s high-end equipment manufacturing industry chain by the localization of high-end reducers,” said Zhou Qingquan, chairman of Wanshsin Seikou (Hunan) Co., Ltd.

Wanshsin has developed and produced a complete range of gear reducers, spanning two major fields: light and heavy industries.


It has three major research and development platforms: Hunan Gear Reducer Engineering Technology Research Center, Hunan Enterprise Technology Center, and Changsha Technology Innovation Center, which mainly focus on the research and optimization of gear reducers, overcoming the core technology of high-precision gear reducers.

After more than ten years of accumulation, the harmonic reducer independently developed by Wanshsin Seikou overcomes key technical problems such as gear meshing, service life and noise. After evaluation, the overall technology has reached the leading domestic level.

“Harmonic reducers are one of the three core components for the production of high-end robots. The core components of this six-axis robot include harmonic reducer, servo system plus drive, and control system, of which the harmonic reducer contains three core components: flexible wheel, rigid wheel and wave generator, “ said a technician.

The harmonic reducer used in the robot was jointly developed by Wanshsin Research Institute, Japan Research Institute and Shenzhen Research Institute. The wall thickness of the flexible wheel is only 0.15 mm, and the precision is second to none in China.

Harmonic reducers are favored by the market because of their compact structure, small size, light weight, fast speed, high precision, good flexibility and maneuverability, wide range of applications, and cost advantages. This robot is mainly used in high-precision welding, aerospace, semiconductor processing equipment, medical communication equipment and automation fields.

“In the first half of this year, the sales of products represented by harmonic reducers in the domestic market decreased slightly, but the sales in the international market increased by 2.97%,” said Qi Zihui, a project director of Wanshsin Seikou, “This shows the recognition of our products by foreign customers. ”

“We develop about 3-5 new products every year. And this year there are 5 newly developed products, an increase of 25%,” said Zhou Qingquan.

Wanshsin Seikou supports enterprises such as Hunan Sany Tower Crane Co., Ltd., Hunan Sany Building Co., Ltd., and Lens Intelligent Robot (Changsha) Co., Ltd.

Zhou Qingquan noted that the company will focus on RV reducer manufacturing technology this year, to fill the shortcomings of high-precision reducers in Hunan Province, and solve technical problems such as torque reserve and power output mode, performance matching, vibration and noise in low-speed high-precision reducers.

In addition, it will improve product quality and design, process development, manufacturing equipment and testing and other comprehensive technical levels to realize domestic replacement in the field of intelligent equipment in Changsha, making contributions to Changsha's endeavor to build a 100-billion intelligent manufacturing (10-billion robot industrial cluster) industrial cluster.
