A national innovative monitoring and evaluation report release and expert consultation meeting was held in Beijing on February 15. The monitoring and evaluation reports on the innovation capability of national innovative cities in 2022 were released at the meeting. 

A list of China’s top 100 cities for innovation capability was also announced. Changsha, Zhuzhou, Xiangtan and Hengyang ranked 10th, 32nd, 65th and 99th respectively on the list. 

According to the results of the evaluation on the innovation capability of national innovative cities, the top 10 cities are Shenzhen, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Xi'an, Suzhou, Changsha, Hefei and Qingdao.

By the end of 2022, there had been 103 cities (districts) supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology to develop into national innovative cities, which play an important role in China’s efforts to develop into an innovative country.

Shenzhen was the first pilot city in the innovation-oriented cities evaluation launched in 2008. A total of 4 cities in Hunan Province have been included in the national innovative city construction, and Changsha was approved as an innovative pilot city in 2010.
