On January 30, the Ministry of Commerce announced the proposed recommendation list of the cities that achieved remarkable results in promoting the steady and innovative development of foreign trade in 2022 on its official website. There are ten cities on the list, and Changsha is one of them.

It means that Changsha’s foreign trade development and innovation in 2022 has been affirmed by the state.

According to customs statistics, in 2022, the total import and export value of Changsha City exceeded 300 billion yuan for the first time, reaching 331.56 billion yuan, an increase of 21.1% over the same period of the previous year. The total import and export volume ranked 14th among municipalities directly under the central government and provincial capitals in the country, and the growth rate of import and export ranked 7th. Among them, exports were 246.29 billion yuan, an increase of 27.3%. The total export volume ranked 12th, and the export growth rate ranked 7th.

In recent years, the scale of Changsha’s foreign trade has been rising year by year, showing a leapfrog development trend, exceeding 100 billion yuan in 2018, 200 billion yuan in 2019, and 300 billion yuan in 2022, a record high, with an average annual growth rate of about 30%.

Changsha’s foreign trade partners have become more diversified. In 2022, the largest trading partner was  ASEAN, with an import and export value of 75.54 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 47.9%. During the same period, imports and exports to countries along the "Belt and Road" amounted to 128.79 billion yuan, an increase of 41.8%. The imports and exports of other RCEP members reached 116.78 billion yuan, an increase of 27.9%.
