Ningxiang has achieved fruitful results in agriculture this summer.

In the first half of the year, the total agricultural output value of Ningxiang was 9.223 billion yuan, and the added value of the primary industry was 5.12 billion yuan, with year-on-year growth of 7.4% and 6.9% respectively, ranking the first in the four districts and counties (cities) of Changsha.

A total of 1,686,200 mu (about 1,124 square kilometers) of grain has been sown, including 542,100 mu (361.4 square kilometers) of early rice, 560,900 mu (about 373.93 square kilometers) of double-cropping late rice, 442,000 mu (about 294.67 square kilometers) of semilate rice (including one-season late rice), and 141,200 mu (about 94.13 square kilometers) of other crops other than wheat and rice.

With a year-on-year increase of 34.2%, the number of pigs was 525,100, ranking the second among the four districts and counties (cities) in Changsha. The per capita disposable income of rural residents was 18,749 yuan, seeing an increase up to 6% year on year, with the growth rate ranking the first among the four districts and counties (cities) in Changsha.

The total economic income of the village collective reached 79.48 million yuan, with 55.19 million yuan of operating income. 157 villages have completed basic tasks and 63 villages have completed upgrading tasks, with the figure of completion rate standing at 65.4% and 63% respectively.

Grain harvest ensures livelihood

Grain has always been the foundation of Ningxiang's scientific development of  economic society. Great efforts have been made in the supply-side structural reform in agriculture to stabilize output and optimize the structure.

Taking the green, high-quality and efficient creation of grain and oil as the focus, the construction of green, high-quality and efficient demonstration plots of grain and oil has been pushed forward with the improvement of large and medium-sized irrigation areas and the supporting facilities in the fields. It aims to build a new pattern for the development of characteristic agricultural industries and achieve annual increase in grain production.

This year, the city will invest 227 million yuan of financial funds to subsidize farmland productivity and moderate scale operation, so as to further stimulate the enthusiasm of farmers for grain planting, further increase the sown area of grain, and improve the level of grain production, grain production capacity and the level of disaster resistance and loss reduction.

"This year, the average yield per mu (about 0.0667 hectares) of early rice has increased by 10%. Among them, the measured yield per mu (about 0.0667 hectares) of the experimental paddy fields for grain production reached 577.8 kilograms, and the average yield per mu (about 0.0667 hectares) of non-experimental field reached 402 kilograms, with an average increase of 103 kilograms over 2021 by 34.5%," from Ningxiang Agricultural and Rural Bureau came the good news. Both harvesting and planting have come to an end, with good harvest of early rice.

Fruit harvest boosts income

It is just the ripe season of grapes. Bunches of crystal-clear grapes are hanging on the branches, attracting many visitors to pick and taste at Yinlong Vineyard in Shanshanling Village, Daolin Town, Ningxiang City.

Covering an area of nearly 50 mu (around 3.33 hectares), there are more than 10 varieties like Summer Black, Kyoho and Shine Muscat, with an estimated output of 50,000 kilograms this year. Because the vineyard is next to the "Millennium Iron Soul of Hunan People" Scenic Spot, the increasing popularity of the scenic spot has driven the rapid development of local tourism and leisure agriculture.

At the end of July, yellow peaches in Ningxiang were ripe for the market, attracting many tourists. The output of yellow peaches in Weishuiyuan Village is about 150,000 kilograms this year, with the annual income of village collective exceeding 500,000 yuan. Now the first batch of yellow peaches have all been picked.

The prosperity of the industry leads to the prosperity of the countryside. The transformation of the traditional agricultural mode also has driven the further development of the local economy. At the Xiangzihuakai Base in Xiangzikou Town, more than 3,500 mu (about 233.33 hectares) of yellow peach trees are planted under the integrated mode of "company + farmers + cooperatives", with an estimated yield of 500 kilograms per mu (about 0.0667 hectares).

At the same time, a unique fruit industry has been created to effectively drive the villagers to increase income and become rich through online live streaming, promotion on large platforms, on-site picking organized by relevant departments, and purchase by enterprises.
