Summer is the harvest season of grapes. In the vineyard of Guanshan Community, Jinzhou Town, grapes are a real treat for visitors and bring wealth to farmer Deng Wei. It is expected that the output value per mu will exceed 30,000 yuan.

"I miss the taste of grapes every year at this time. It's a worthwhile tour that I can enjoy countryside scenery and fresh grapes at the same time," said Ms. Zhou who drove from Wangcheng District of Changsha City. She took pictures with the grapes under the grapevine. After half an hour, Ms. Zhou picked three boxes of grapes.

Local grape farmers have gained rich experience in growing grapes from building grape trellis, pruning vines, water and fertilizer management, field maintenance to pest and disease control.

With such careful management, the vines bear plump grapes with the sweetness degree above 20. As it's the best season to eat grapes, the daily sales of grapes can reach about 4,000 yuan.

As the grape planting base is located in the Guanshan Scenic Area, self-drive tourists would like to buy some grapes from the base on their way home. And some tourists prefer picking grapes by themselves.

Ningxiang has planted grapes for more than 30 years. And the grape planting base in Guanshan covers an area of 1,000 mu (about 66.7 hectares).

Since 2017, the base has adopted the mode of "enterprise + base + farmer" and engaged experts from Hunan Agriculture University to provide technical guidance, by which multiple superior varieties of grapes have been cultivated and gained national certification for green food.

It is expected to see a bumper harvest of grapes in Guanshan Community this year. The average yield per mu will reach about 1,000 kilograms, with an output value of 30,000 yuan. The picking period this year will last until the end of September.
