Leisure agriculture enters digital era

Changsha Leisure Agriculture Association signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with an e-commerce company to build online and offline interactive platforms, in a bid to open a new era of “digital farm” and boost rural revitalization.

The “digital farm” project includes building the online AR exhibition hall, increasing efforts to promote leisure farm, creating a local life circle of leisure farm via Tik Tok to promote rural tourism and leisure consumption; introducing agricultural products of leisure farm through Xiangcun food sharing platform; and creating one-stop service port of leisure farm to reduce costs and increase efficiency for the development of leisure farm.

“Changsha’s leisure agriculture has always been taken as a model in China. In recent years, leisure agriculture has been upgraded from an industry with agritainment as its main form to a comprehensive industry with many new business forms like sightseeing, vacation, wellness, creative agriculture, farming experience, etc.,” said Wang Zhonglin, head of the association.

At present, there are 1,552 farms in Changsha and 371 farms above designated size, including 212 star-rated farms, 26 national five-star farms, 77 provincial star-rated farms, 2 China’s most beautiful farms and 4 national demonstration farms. It is a large emerging industry with 70,000 employees, directly driving 100,000 farmers to become rich together.

In 2021, the number of tourist arrivals for leisure agriculture in Changsha exceeded 35 million, with the comprehensive operating income of over 11 billion yuan.
