During the May Day holiday this year, Hunan’s cultural tourism market saw stable operation but remained depressed due to the domestic epidemic. 971 units in the province included in the statistics monitoring received a total of 5.39 million tourist trips and achieved a business income of about 638 million yuan.

421 accommodation units hosted 202,700 visitors and achieved a business income of 74.2030 million yuan, with a room occupancy rate of 52.43%. 208 cultural service units received 449,300 visitors in total.

Affected by the epidemic, cross-province tours and the number of travelers heading for home dropped sharply. Residents of the province became the main source of tourists, and most families chose self-drive tours, suburban tours, short-distance tours and rural tours.

Local cultural and tourism departments launched colorful activities and preferential tickets for the public.

Zhangjiajie made full use of the Tourism Development Conference to publicize itself through various media. With free tickets, preferential packages, and marketing activities, Zhangjiajie received good response from tourism market. Wulingyuan core Scenic Area received 45,000 tourist trips and Tianmen Mountain Scenic Area received 41,000 tourist trips during the holiday.

Blooming azaleas all over the mountains drew many visitors to come to Dawei  Mountain Scenic Area, Yangming Mountain Scenic Area, and Wanhe Lake Scenic Area.

Mulberry picking activities in counties and districts of Hengyang City attracted parents and their children.

Hanshou Tongfa Wildlife World opened for trial operation before the holiday and received 102,400 visitors during the holiday, achieving an admission revenue of 5.81 million yuan.

Camping has become the hottest choice for the holiday without options for going out of the city. Tents and canopies can be found everywhere in parks, river beaches and grassland.

According to the data from Qunar.com, the number of camping users in Hunan saw a fast growth, with a maximum increase of three times compared to the week before the holiday. Many scenic spots, hotels and homestay inns also added camping elements to their products.

For example, the fifth Jiuxian Lake Tung Blossom Festival held in Zhuzhou City not only offered garden tours, but also set up camping bases for visitors.

Scenic areas in the province have strictly implemented ticket reservation and tourist flow control. The province's A-class scenic area limited its reception within 75% of the maximum carrying capacity.

During the May Day holiday, Hunan's cultural tourism market ran safely and smoothly. There were no safety accidents, no major complaints, nor negative reports.
