Hunan to see snowstorm and freeze this week
According to Hunan Meteorological Bureau, the southwest warm and wet airflow and cold air will cause continuous cloudy, rainy and snowy days in Hunan Province, where there will be snowfall and freeze in most areas between January 27 and 29.
Sleet, freezing rain, or snow will hit northwest Hunan on January 27. Heavy snow will be seen during the daytime from 28 to 29 when central and southern areas of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Zhangjiajie, Changde, Yiyang, Yueyang, Changsha, Xiangtan, Loudi and Huaihua will see moderate and heavy snow. And a snowstorm and a stronger one will hit some areas. Some areas of central and northern Hunan will have a maximum snow depth reaching 10 to 18 centimeters.
Weather will temporarily turn good across Hunan from the evening of 29th to 30th with fog in central Hunan and most northern areas. The morning of 30th will see the lowest temperature of -4℃ to 2℃ with that reaching about -5℃ in local areas. From the evening of 31st, there will be freezing rain and snow across the province.
Specific forecasts are as follows:
On January 27th, Xiangxi, Zhangjiajie, Changde, northern Huaihua and western Yiyang will expect moderate rain or sleet which will give way to light and moderate snow later, while local areas will have heavy snow and even snowstorm. Central Huaihua and western Loudi will see sleet or freezing rain and then moderate snow. Other areas will see light to moderate rain.
On January 28, central and northern Hunan will see moderate to heavy snow, and some areas of southern Xiangxi, southern Zhangjiajie, southern Changde, Yiyang, northern Yueyang and northern Huaihua will have snowstorm while local areas will see heavier snowstorm. Southern Huaihua, Shaoyang, eastern Loudi, northern Hengyang and northern Yongzhou will see sleet or freezing rain before moderate snow while other areas will have light rain or sleet.
During the daytime of January 29, heavy snowfall will tend to hit southern Hunan. Most areas of the province will have light to moderate snow. And some areas of central and southern Huaihua, northern Shaoyang, Loudi, Xiangtan, Changsha, southern Yueyang and northern Zhuzhou will see heavy snow and local areas will have snowstorm. Southern Huaihua, southern Shaoyang, northern Yongzhou and western Hengyang will see freezing rain. Southern Yongzhou, central and southern Chenzhou and southern Zhuzhou will see light to moderate rain or sleet.
