The press conference on 2021 Chinese Farmers’ Harvest Festival was held on the morning of September 1. Changsha will be the host city for two key home events, two branch venues, eight provincial-level celebrations, and nine special events.

In this September, the city will hold a forum on food security and rice cultivation culture. Meanwhile, the event will showcase Hunan’s rice fields with ecological farming, rice germplasm resources, colorful paddy rice fields, giant rice mazes, beautiful livable villages, and other unique landscapes of agriculture, rural areas and farmers in Hunan.

The event is guided by the Committee of Chinese Farmers Harvest Festival Organization, and will be hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, People's Government of Hunan Province, and undertaken by Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Hunan Province and People's Government of Changsha City.

Nationally, Hunan is the largest planter and the second largest producer of paddy rice. Globally, it ranks among the world’s top in terms of rice breeding. It is also one of the 13 major grain producing provinces with the most recognized varieties of super rice and a large planting area in China, with the annual grain output around 30 billion kilograms.

The Forum on Food Security and Rice Cultivation Culture will be one of the highlights where experts from 13 major grain producing provinces will gather for discussion. During the event, the branch venues will showcase the rice culture of Dao County of Yongzhou City and Li County of Changde City, and will conduct spot connection with the home venue to create a “bumper harvest” scene for the people nationwide.

At the same time, Farmer Culture and Art Exhibition will be staged at Tianhan Cultural Park in Changsha County, which will cover four parts including theater performance, intangible cultural heritage experience, bazaar display, and theme exhibition. The exhibition, together with intangible cultural heritage projects related to farming civilization and rural revitalization, will help promote high-quality agricultural products.

An agricultural machinery operation skills competition will be held to show what are new farmers.

During the festival, the province will conduct 8 activities like the photography contest, agricultural machinery operation skill contest, and high-quality rice field auctions, aiming to show the achievements of the work related to “agriculture, rural areas and farmers”.

The provincial government will organize inheritors of intangible cultural heritage to visit field landscapes along the Longping Rice Planting Park and launch a rice harvesting competition. Meanwhile, it will also make great efforts on the building of agricultural landmarks where visitors can know the latest technology and achievements in food industry.

Moreover, the event will display Changsha County's characteristic and high-quality agricultural products such as green tea, rice, blueberries and sweet potatoes, which will fully advance the development of agriculture, rural areas and farmers.
