Miyin Temple is located in Weishan Mountain, in the west of Ningxiang City, Hunan province. Driving westward for 70 kilometers along Ningxiang-Lianyuan highway, climbing up Dawei Mountain and entering into a basin, then you will see a grand ancient temple, which is the famous Miyin Temple.

Miyin Temple, built in Tang Dynasty, boasts a history of over 1,200 years. It is tall and majestic. The main building of the temple is Ten Thousand Buddha Hall, which was rebuilt in 1993, with a hip-and-gable roof. The hall is 27 meters high, decorated with exquisite angled cornices and golden glazed tiles. There are 38 pillars that are made of white granite and under the eaves are complex Ruyi (an S-shaped ornamental object symbolizing good luck) brackets. All these make the hall look grand and magnificent, with beautiful structures and lines. Besides, there are 12,218 Buddhist statues embedded in the walls, and each of them is inlaid with gold and looks glittering under the soft light. An exquisite shrine was once placed in the hall, with 3 solemn Buddhist statues on it. Around the Ten Thousand Buddha Hall, there are a group of ancient buildings, such as the East Side Hall, West Side Hall, Qi Hall, Dhamma Hall, Merit Hall, Nirvana Hall and the living rooms. A natural stone, named Oil and Salt Stone, lies behind Qi Hall. It is said that when the temple was built, thousands of monks were fed by the soil and salt pouring out of the stone. In addition, there are 2 shoe prints on the stone left by the wife of Pei Xiu, a famous prime minister of Tang Dynasty, according to legend. The Beauty Stone Water Pipe, funded by Mrs. Chen, provides water for the whole temple. It was made of hundreds of stones with small grooves, delivering water from Longwang Well to the kitchen of the temple. On the halfway of Lufeng Peak, the highest part of Weishan Mountain, lies the Muniu Stone, which is quite big. It is said that Lingyou Chan Master once sat in meditation on this stone.

This temple was founded by Lingyou Chan Master and Baitai Chan Master in Tang Dynasty and its unique thoughts were inherited by Weiyang Sect, which has a long history and owns a number of excellent followers.
