Huaminglou is a national 5A tourist attraction and a patriotism education base in Ningxiang city, Hunan province. Located in the southeast of Ningxiang city and on the side of the Jinjiang River, Huaminglou borders Yuelu District in the northeast and Xiangtan city and Xiangxiang city in the southwest. It is only 20km from the provincial capital Changsha, 30km from Shaoshan and 34km from the Ningxiang downtown. The Liu Shaoqi Memorial Hall in the Huaminglou Scenic Area, built in memory of Liu Shaoqi, a revolutionary and late Chinese leader, is one of the country's patriotism education bases frequented by the tourists.

Huaminglou is a beautiful town in the southeast of Ningxiang city. The Shuangshi (Double Lions) Ridge is stacked with green trees. The irrigation canal intersects with the Jinjinag River, making them look like two silver chains. According to Ningxiang County Annals written during the reign of Emperor Tongzhi of the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911), a man named Qi built a tower here as a place for his two sons to study, and the tower was named Huaminglou. Maybe Qi was inspired by famous poems to name the building Huaming, which means blooming flowers in Chinese. Tang Dynasty (618-907) poet Wang Wei wrote “Willows flourish, flowers bloom, it is already late spring in the capital” and Lu You wrote during the Song Dynasty (960-1279), “When one doubts whether there is a way out from the endless mountains and rivers; one suddenly finds a village shaded in soft willows and bright flowers”. Now hundreds of years have passed, the tower has disappeared and Huaminglou has become the name of the place where the tower is located. Though it remains doubtful whether the two sons of Qi have written great poems, their descendants have undoubtedly made great achievements.

Huaminglou has nurtured many outstanding people such as Tao Runai, an academician of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644); Zhu Yidian, a leader of the army from the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom (1851-64); Zhou Yi, a famous modern sculptor-painter, and Hunan embroidery masters Yang Shizhuo and Yang Peizhen.
